Back cover blurb:
How far would you go to protect your secrets?

Greece, 1980. Emma takes part in a shattering, violent event. An event to which she is anything but an innocent bystander. She is only eighteen, but this marks her fall from innocence. It will haunt her for the rest of her life.

London, now. Kate has the perfect existence: a glossy image, a glamorous home, a perfect family. But there are cracks. All is not what it seems. And now the two worlds are about to collide. Somebody's out for revenge. Someone who has been waiting thirty years..

1980, Ikaria, Greece, 18 year old Emma James is travelling alone, a sheltered only child, desperate to leave her home town of Ripon behind her and see the world before she settles down at University. Young and vunerable and lonely after a harrowing experience travelling through France, Emma falls in with two more much more experienced American travellers who take her under their wing.
Jake and Beattie are both older than Emma, more wordly wise, and Emma doesn't hesitate to befriend them. Jake I liked immediately and could see why Emma identified with him, Beattie, well I wasn't so sure about her, but you can make up your own mind.

With that said, I guessed fairly early on in the novel that things were perhaps not quite as they seemed, but I think that's due to the genre of novel that I consume on a regular basis, rather than Crouch's writing.

As the back cover blurb suggests the novel is told from two points of view, that of Emma (in diary format) in 1980 and that of Kate in the present day. Kate is a complex character, grief stricken years after a family tragedy and harbouring a secret that her closest friends and family know nothing of.

Kate's world is rocked when a face from her past emails her out of the blue to suggest meeting up, Kate is reluctant but has little choice, as her secrets are under threat of being revealed to those she loves. What follows is a turbulent tale of lies and deception, and it's not just Kate that is lying!

The Long Fall is a gripping read, the perfect accompaniment for the resent sunny weather that we have been having, but you might not want to be alone whilst you're reading....

The Long Fall is available to buy online now and from all good book shops.
